Mrs. Hoa also shared that besides the convenience of receiving HIV care and treatment much nearer to home, she also felt more comfortable because she is much more familiar with the health workers at the commune health station. She could also chat with her commune fellows on the way to or when there was queuing at the commune health station.

The Treatment 2.0 initiative has been mobilizing village health workers, people living with HIV and people who inject drugs to reach out to people at higher risk of HIV and encourage them to take a rapid screening test right in their commune. Mrs. Hoa successfully persuaded Mrs. Lo Thi Thuong who lived in her hamlet and whose drug-injecting husband died a few years ago, to take HIV test. Mrs. Thuong also tested positive and was enrolled in treatment. She is well adhering to treatment, in good health and living a productive life.

Mrs. Hoa’s husband Lo Van Thanh has been on ARV treatment since 2007 and is now also receiving care and treatment at the commune health station. He takes responsibility in fixing their house-on-stilts where needed besides helping out with other work on the paddy rice field and in the garden.
